The Global Talent Stream (GTS) is a two-year pilot collaboration between Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) that began in June 2017. (ESDC). The GTS helps certain Canadian businesses acquire highly talented workers from all over the world, allowing them to compete on a global platform. Employers who complete the programme successfully will be allowed to use the Global Skills Strategy to speed up the hiring process for foreign nationals.
According to figures released in , almost 40,000 foreign employees entered Canada through the GTS in the first two years. In addition, the stream has been used by over 1,100 Canadian firms to recruit exceptional foreign workers.
This initiative was created to assist Canadian businesses in locating external talent and overcoming a scarcity of local tech skills. Companies can swiftly fill their skill requirements via this arrangement. The time it takes to process a visa has been lowered from six months to just ten business days. This also aids candidates in receiving a prompt reply to their application.
Category 1: Designated Partner Referral
This category includes high-growth enterprises that can demonstrate a need for specialised personnel. These businesses must explain why they need to hire skilled personnel from other countries. To participate in the GTS programme, they must be validated by a designated referral partner.
For the first two applications, companies using the GTS programme under Category A must furnish an annual income of 80,000 CAD, while future applications require an annual salary of 1,50,000 CAD.
Category 2: Global Talent Occupation List
This category includes businesses that aim to hire highly skilled foreign workers for jobs on the Global Talent Occupations List. These positions must be extremely popular. They must have a scarcity of capabilities among the local talent.
Computer engineers, IT analysts, software engineers, digital media experts, and other professions are included in this list. The list is updated on a regular basis to reflect changes in labour or skill needs.
1.Examine your Skills
It's vital to note that you can't apply to the GTS directly; only Canadian employers can do so. They apply to the GTS to be designated and acquire labour market impact assessments in order to hire eligible foreign workers. The first stage is to determine whether you meet the criteria for highly skilled workers in Category 1 and Category 2.
2. Get a Job
You must get a job offer from a Canadian employer who is eligible for the GTS under Category 1 or 2.
3. Application for a Work Permit in Canada
You must complete a work permit application that includes your job offer letter and a copy of your employer's LMIA. A police clearance certificate and a medical test are also required.
