Express Entry: Canada holds major draw inviting 5,956 immigration candidates
In Canada, visitors may still apply for work permits, and the temporary arrangement has been extended by two years.
28 February 2023, OttawaForeign people who obtain a legitimate employment offer while visiting Canada will still be allowed to apply for and be granted a work visa without needing to leave the country. Visitors who apply in accordance with this public policy and who had a work permit during the previous year may still ask for temporary work authorization to start working for their new employer more quickly.
Employers in Canada have the option of using visitors if this temporary policy is maintained because many are dealing with severe workforce shortages at this time of economic expansion.
To be eligible to apply, an applicant looking to benefit from this temporary public policy must
- 1. Have valid status in Canada as a visitor on the day they apply
- 2. Have a job offer that is supported by a labour market impact assessment (LMIA) or an LMIA-exempt offer of employment
- 3. Submit an application for an employer-specific work permit no later than February 28, 2025
- 4. Meet all other standard admissibility criteria
